Bet’s B&B Studio is the perfect base to explore Sydney. It’s close to public transport to the city – bus and light rail – and conveniently located just minutes from Annandale’s shops, cafés and restaurants.
Annandale is one of the closest suburbs to the city and one of its oldest. It’s known for its vibrant atmosphere and residential diversity. Its wide tree-lined streets, lively shopping area and cosmopolitan character, give Annandale its friendly and quiet neighbourhood charm.
WHERE TO EAT
There are more than 20 cafés and restaurants and a variety of stores, bakeries, supermarkets, pubs and boutique shops. In recent years, Annandale’s reputation as a ‘food hub’ has grown with the re-birth of the historic (1904) Tramsheds. Now, under a single roof, are 12 restaurants with an expansive international food selection.
WHAT TO DO
Annandale’s foreshore walk on the southern edge of Rozelle Bay is an easy 10-minute walk from Bet’s B&B Studio. A picturesque path takes you to the Sydney Fish Markets in 20 minutes. Along the way, there are beautiful harbour views of the Marina, Anzac Bridge, Sydney Harbour Bridge and, across the water, the unique city skyline. There are 17 hectares of parkland for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and picnickers.
WHAT TO SEE
With its deep historical roots, Annandale has many fine examples of the types of houses and buildings that catalogue two centuries of Australia’s urban development. On Johnston Street are eight extraordinary Gothic-inspired and heritage-listed ‘Witches Houses’. There’s also the towering Presbyterian Church. For 111 years the twin 70-metre spires were the tallest in NSW until surpassed by Sydney’s St Mary’s Church in 2000. Many grand residences remain, so too does an apartment complex that was once the world’s biggest piano factory.
